Swords are associated with nobility, courage and uprightness.  During the Middle Ages, they were a necessity to combat evil and commit to the good; developing the self.  Children have an innate connection to this phase of human history, and when given guidelines around this play they have an opportunity to experience the positive developmental aspects of knighthood.
